Following Instructions In The Scriptures

Have you ever wanted a good readiness activity to lead into the topic of following instructions in the scriptures? This fell into my lap this morning and I am thankful for the inspiration from the Holy Ghost.
Scripture Block- James 4:1-4, 6-10
Subject-Leaving the friendship of the world.
Readiness Activity- Folding Boats
Instructions- After a short activity filling out mastery scripture clues, use the same piece of paper to fold into boats. Explain that you are going to show a how-to video and they need to listen to it entirely before proceeding. Show this.

Proceed to fold. At some point everyone will bog down and need help. In my class one of the students who is spatially gifted assisted others until he needed help as well. Explain that you are going to show the whole video again. Then proceed with the folding until everyone is done with or without the assistance of others.
Object lesson application: Read verses 1-4 and ask what we can expect to find if we befriend the world.   Then explain that James gave instructions to avoid befriending the world and befriending God. Read all the instructions through carefully. Then launch a discussion about the ways we can befriend God instead. Verses 9-10 can require some helping hands. How can mourning and weeping be joyful?

"Regarding happiness and joy, then, it appears that up may not be up and down may not be down. Rather, we begin to see the surprising outlines of a divine paradox. As nonsensical as it may at first sound, in the gospel, and regarding happiness, up appears to be down and down appears to be up." James Ferrel

The real lifting up comes from falling down at His feet. He alone can lift us up.
So, the video is like the scriptures, the help we get from each other like prophets and finishing is enduring to the end.

It could work for you or you could make an entirely new lesson out of the components. I love when things work and everyone is equally engaged.
