The Facts:
Jesus was at a wedding in Cana with his disciples. Mary was there and she was concerned about the lack of wine. She instructed the servants to do what Jesus asked them to do. There were six jugs of water which he turned into the finest wine. The guests were astounded that the wine at the end of the wedding feast was still of the most excellent quality.
Reading Between the Lines:
Mary was serving and cared about the couple getting married. Even though Jesus had not publicly declared his ministry he assisted Mary in her concerns in a public setting. Mary trusted that Jesus could solve the problem. If he could change water into wine then he had control over the elements. Jesus showed love for the couple getting married and compassion for his mother.
Loving-kindness, or hesed in Hebrew, started his ministry and continued as the Hallmark of his life. What miracles has he wrought in your life? Is he turning the mundane into the sublime?
